About Us
Our History
The Free Theater Troupe Association is an artistic organization within Jordan’s civil society. Its administrative committee is elected every two years by the general assembly.
In mid-2000, a group of professional Jordanian artists gathered to form a collective entity to engage in various artistic activities—such as theater, cinema, and television. We firmly believe in the necessity of art in everyday life and our role as artists committed to people’s issues, aiming to present dedicated and serious artistic experiences. Thus, we announced our establishment through a theatrical performance, naming our association “Free Theater Troupe Association,” and received our official license on May 10, 2000.
The association has continued to produce and present various theatrical performances each year, focusing on different governorates and districts. It has emphasized showcasing its works in popular and remote areas, and has also produced several community-oriented films to convey artistic messages tailored to individual preferences and inclinations, whether through theater or film.
In just a few years, our renowned name spread across the nation and then the Arab world, through theatrical experiences that expressed the conscience and spirit of humanity in various regions and forms. The troupe expanded its membership to include those who share its intellectual and artistic visions, embracing a younger generation aware of the importance of theater. It included many conscious and educated youths, focusing on specialized artistic workshops for both genders to discover and nurture young creative talents, guiding them in the right direction to prevent them from falling into extremist ideologies. To achieve this, we annually present children’s performances in Jordan’s governorates, districts, and remote villages.
The association has taken gradual steps based on the experiences of its founders in theater and art. We have continuously presented our theatrical works and films over the years, driven by seriousness, authenticity, and a belief in human concerns. We have successfully transitioned from one stage to another, offering diverse experiences in form, style, and subject matter. This has enabled us to expand to the Arab world and become one of the most important and reputable theater troupes in various Arab and foreign countries.
In 2006, we planted the first seed for our annual sustainable project called “Free Theater Nights.” The idea grew and evolved into an international festival, deeply rooted in the minds and hearts of its founders and its eager audience. Arab and foreign theater troupes now eagerly seek to present their theatrical innovations through this festival. This has placed a significant responsibility on us in selecting performances, ensuring strict criteria for the quality of artistic production. We continue to hold the festival annually, which has received international recognition from the International Theater Institute (ITI) under UNESCO. The association also continues to produce television and film projects with high professionalism and conduct specialized training workshops in all fields of the arts.
