On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, the Free Theater Troupe is celebrating its achievements over the past years, which have garnered significant Arab and international recognition through its artistic and creative participation in various Arab and global festivals and forums. Continuing its annual tradition, the troupe is organizing its theater festival, featuring significant international contributions from Arab, local, and international groups, similar to previous editions, with multiple tracks including youth, international, and children’s sections.

In a recent meeting, the Board of Directors of the Free Theater praised the tireless efforts of the renowned artist Amal Dabbas, who chaired the festival’s supreme committee for the past seven consecutive years, bringing about a qualitative shift in the festival. The board decided to appoint scenographer Mohammed Al-Murashidi as the head of the supreme committee for the 19th edition of the International Free Theater Festival, which will be held on June 29th with distinguished Arab and international participation. Details will be announced later.

In his first statement after assuming his new duties, Al-Murashidi confirmed that the upcoming edition will feature numerous distinguished events and major theatrical performances, as is customary for the festival each year, and will be particularly special this year as the kingdom celebrates the silver jubilee of His Majesty the King’s assumption of constitutional powers. He added that the festival strives annually to preserve its achievements built over the past 25 years, aspiring to always be at the forefront of Arab and local festivals.

In a related context, and out of loyalty and appreciation, the board decided to name the 19th edition after the late artist Samir Khwalda in recognition of his significant contributions to the Arab and Jordanian theater movement and his tremendous efforts in supporting the Free Theater. Additionally, the theatrical directing award, given in both the youth and international tracks, has been named after the late artist.
